RE: Trace/Xantrex Inverter Woes

"First thing to try is to reset the inverter/charger."
Zackly... Disconnect(or use battery disconnect if applicable) the batteries, reconnect the RC6, then reconnect your batteries.

RE: solar power

There's a handy info section on Northern Arizona Wind & Sun. And the discussion forum is also a handy place.
Also, there's plenty of people on here that run systems similar to what you want.
Basically if you'll want 100watts of solar per 100aH of battery. Obviously more is better and where you stay will effect your system.
I survive just fine with (3) 130watt panels, a SB3024i charger and 440aH of batteries, but... there's an upgrade in my future.
O
edited to say... woow, I just noticed where you are. You can do it that far north, but it'll be expensive.

RE: Does this slider hitch install look right???

It looks right to me, but take a gander at the rail installation instructions and the hitch installation instructions.
I'm assuming that this is on the 08 3500. So, unless I've misinterpreted them, there's two additional bolts that should have been added.

RE: advice/tips wanted for towing 35' 5th wheel

I'm with the other folks. I prefer the truck island, but have no issues with the rv island. Extra fuels tanks are your friend when you're lugger around one of these larger rv's. 88 gallons gives me plenty of time to plan my stops.
I've also been know to just "nose up" to a pump when no other option was available. Pull straight up to the pump till you can get to your filler neck and leave the trailer hanging out. When you've finished, just back out and be on your way.

RE: Testing Break-Away Switch

I make this part of my routine bearing inspection. To that end, while I have a wheel jacked up, I pull the break away switch and then check to ensure that the wheel is braking.
So, if you don't want to hook up, just jack up a wheel.

RE: San Diego gas fridge repair & buying solar & batteries?

Another vote for San Diego Trailer Supply. They've done a ton of work for me over the years. I'd order your solar goods online and have them shipped straight to SDTS. The folks there can handle just about anything.
One word of caution on getting your rig in there. Check it out ahead of time, they have a relatively small parking lot.

RE: Plywood edging for mattress foundation?

Check the molding section of your local HD or Lowes. Most of them carry various trim pieces in plastic. You could always use wooden trim pieces as well.

RE: Removing screen in roof vents to clean

You need to remove the trim ring as well. 4 screws hold it in place to the ceiling.
Then squeeze the screen sides together and it'll come right out.

RE: Insect screen help please

I've used metal window screen material for years. For the furnace, cut a piece slightly larger than the intake/exhaust ports and use whatever small tool you have onhand to push it into place. On the frig and water heater doors, just glue a piece onto the backside of the doors that's large enough to cover the vent holes. I've used both rtv and gorilla glue with success. I've also used the same technique to close up holes around the geny compartment.
As a last ditch effort to keep the little buggers at bay, I use a tennis racket.

RE: understanding battery amp hours

Let me point you to a calculator. It'll shed some lite for you.
I just spent several months down there running 3 Kyocera 130 watt panels w/ 440 aH of storage. I never dipped below 70% but then I only watched a couple hours of tv per day.

RE: Need help with inverter

I while back I used an AIMS PSW inverter in a CarPC install. The inverter acted flaky on small loads, but as soon as the pc was turned on everything would act normal.
So, for the heck of it. Try plugging in something that will put more of a load on the inverter. You may need a smaller less-intelligent MSW inverter depending on how small your load is.

RE: should underbelly sag?!

I've had the underbelly off my KZ several times. Likely what you're seeing is nothing more than a wave in the material. If a man can get that FRP material to install perfectly flat over that wide of area, he's a better man than me. I added sheets to the underside of my garage space and it's got more waves than the ocean that I'm parked next to.
If you're that worried about it, drop a corner and take a peak. Odds are you'll see nothing but empty space (KZ's not know for spending too much on insulation).

RE: Dry camping questions

I'd recommend that you "practice" before you go. It's far easier to get answers while you're dry camping in your yard than it is out on the trail.
